The Spring Independent School District (ISD) has made several changes that it hopes will benefit all of its stakeholders in the upcoming school year.
The first notable change for Spring ISD students and their families will be the earlier starting date for the new school year, which is August 17. Due to its designation as a District of Innovation, ISD has the flexibility to create a school calendar that allows the first semester to be completed before winter break, enables the balancing of days per semester and synchronize its schedule with those of local college Calendars.
The 2017-18 school year will find approximately 5,000 new students eligible to ride the bus to school. A fleet of 60 new buses have been added, which has the potential to reduce traffic congestion at the start and end of the school day. Once elementary students have arrived, they will have the Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) option regardless of which Spring ISD elementary campus they attend.
Other changes include the replacement of 3,500 obsolete computers and the extension of full-day prekindergarten to two more elementary campuses – Anderson and Smith. New artificial turf has been installed on each of the three comprehensive high school football fields, 150 pallets of new Books have been purchased for district schools, and the school day has been lengthened by five minutes.
