Money has been set aside by the Commissioner’s Office of Harris County Precinct 1 for the construction of new sidewalks, which means for a few schools in Spring, walking or riding bikes to school will be easier.
Most schools campuses in Spring are located in Harris County Precinct 4, but those in Precinct 1 will see construction of new sidewalks, perhaps as soon as the end of summer.
Unfortunately, since Spring begins its 2016-17 school year on August 22, it is unlikely that students will begin the school term with new sidewalks. Any money remaining after the sidewalks have been built might be used for upgrading streetlights and other safety features at some schools.
When it comes time for Spring officials to order a new brochure printing, that printing will likely include pictures of the new sidewalks constructed in front of those schools that receive them. An exact schedule of when the concrete will commence flowing on this project is not available yet, but it is expected that schools serving the youngest children will be targeted first.
Sidewalk construction will begin with the elementary schools at Thompson, Booker, Major, Cooper, Lewis, Eickenroht, and Hoyland. Once those schools have their new sidewalks pouring will continue with Claughton Middle School, Clark Primary and Intermediate Schools, and Westfield and Dekaney High Schools.
