Festival to help Spring animals find forever homes

Next month, Old Town Spring will host Pet Fest, a weekend festival celebrating pets and helping to find homes for animals in shelters.

Old Town Spring is a turn-of-the-century Texas town whose economic success rose and fell with the railroad industry and oil booms. It enjoyed steady merchant growth in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting visitors from all over the world. As such, many popular festivals and events were founded and held in Old Town Spring, such as the Pet Fest.

Pet Fest was founded by Different Strokes Pet Boutique in 2001 and has grown to be a town-wide event. It is held to raise money for animal welfare outreach, as well as to support volunteer groups and animal shelters in Houston and the surrounding area.

The festival will feature a wide range of human and dog-friendly activities. For the furry ones, there will be a “Yappy Hour” for pets to socialize. For the human guests, there will be live music, demonstrations, seminars, and vendor booths. Lisa Green the Pet Psychic will also be on hand offering pet fortune readings.

Pet Fest is slated for October 9 and October 10 in the historic part of Spring. For more information about the event, call 281-528-7070.
