Upcoming planting season to benefit from expert advice

While winter has just begun to take a hold on North America, many people are already looking forward to the coming spring and summer, especially those who are interested in gardening. The Penn State Master Gardeners of Mercer County are one resource the helps teach people the correct way to garden.

The organization is holding a seminar in early January called ‘Spread your leaves and bloom’ which will provide information and tips about gardening. Those who attend the seminar will be served a continental breakfast and lunch They will also have the opportunity to listen to several speakers, will receive handouts of the seminar, and will be eligible to win door prizes. Those who are expected to speak will be Penn State Master Gardeners Rudy Moyer, Shaun Hedglin, Leah Smith, and Steve Horhut. They will be talking about everything from edible landscapes to sustainable agriculture.

Gardening is a very popular pastime for many people and green-fingered enthusiasts are always looking for tips and resources to make sure their flowers and plants bloom and stay healthy. The seminar will no doubt draw interested gardening buffs from many parts of Mercer County, including Hermitage. It is also likely that organizers will have arranged to have all seminar materials provided by local printing companies.

‘Spread your leaves and bloom’ will take place at the Mercer County Extension Office on January 12 from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. Tickets are $30. For more information contact Deborah Plant at 724-301-3273.
