Sharon celebrates spring with weekend of events

The city of Sharon is holding several events this spring, two of which are taking place in early May.

First on the agenda is Maifest, a German celebration of spring. It features German beer, traditional food, and music from artists such as the Apollo Maennerchor Singers. There will also be dancing around the Maibaum or Maypole. Admission is free.

The next day, many of the stores in downtown Sharon will be decorating their doors and windows with flowers and providing free refreshments as part of Spring Fling. At the end of the day, each store will have a draw to give away those flowers. In addition, there will be open houses of several buildings, such as the Lartz Memorial Library and a rummage sale at Penn State Shenango, where they will also be selling Penn State Berkeley Creamery Ice Cream. Two area churches will hold rummage sales.

Visitors from surrounding communities such as Hermitage will probably take a short trip to take part in one or both of these events. Print companies in the area may provide advertising materials like Flyers and Posters.

Maifest is being held at the Apollo Maennerchor Festhalle in Sharon on May 2 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. To find out more information, call 724-308-6599. Spring Fling follows on May 3, and 724-983-3225 is the number to call to find out more.
