Hermitage to have fun in the snow at Winterfest

The city of Hermitage is no doubt printing banners and preparing decorations in anticipation of the Buhl Park WinterFest coming up in a few days.

The event will combine competitions, performances, and food in a celebration of all things crisp, cold, and wintry.

The festival begins with a pancake breakfast, and a food test is also being set up with hot dogs, hot chocolate, and snacks. A chili cook-off will happen in the afternoon, and attendees can pay a nominal fee to taste all the chilies in the competition. Finally, there will be a maple tree tap for lovers of fresh syrup.

The event will have several demos and presentations all day long as well. A woodcarving demo will be conducted by Michael Long, and a golf demo will be provided by the First Tee of Sharon golf club. The Shenango River Watchers will also help attendees build bird feeders that will be placed throughout the park. In the afternoon, Miss Victoria, a spinner of stories, will perform.

The festivities are rounded out with sled riding, horse drawn wagon rides, a dog-sledding demonstration, and a snowman building competition. A multicolored freeze pop hunt for children will round out the event.

The Buhl Park WinterFest will be held this Saturday, February 13 from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at Buhl Park located at 715 Hazen Rd in Hermitage. Admission is free, but there is a charge of $5 for the pancake breakfast and $1 for items at the hot dog tent, and for sampling entries from the chili cook-off. Interested parties should contact the city or check the flyers for more information.
