Solon to host poetry discussion

Solon locals can attend a virtual conversation in February organized by the Cuyahoga County Public Library about the works of poet Joy Harjo.

Poetry Discussion: An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo is an upcoming webinar where people can learn about pieces written by the first Native American Poet Laureate of the US. She is a renowned performer who has created nine Books of poetry and two memoirs. Harjo also wrote children’s Books like The Good Luck Cat, and had a collection of her essays and interviews published in 2011.

The discussion will be led by Susan Grimm, a poet from Cleveland who has been published in The Cincinnati Review and Field. Past works from Grimm include Lake Erie Blue and Almost Home. She has won prizes such as the Hayden Carruth Poetry Prize and Copper Nickel Poetry Prize.

The activity is organized in partnership with National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read Northeast Ohio. The program is sponsored by Kent State University and will consist of seven months of events focusing on Harjo’s most recent poetry collection.

The poetry discussion will be held on Wednesday, February 2 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Listeners do not need to pay an admission fee to attend the virtual program, though registration is required to get a Zoom link for the activity. Libraries such as this may promote their presentations by using flyer printing.
