Work on new hotel now off and running

A new hotel is set to rise in Medina Township, at the Ohio 18/I-71 interchange, about two miles from Medina proper.

The hotel is a Fairfield Inn & Suites, a part of the Marriott Hotel organization. It is a relatively small hotel that will have 76 rooms.

Construction started in November, after county officials issued a permit that approved the building. The original design did not meet state codes for such installations as ramps for handicapped guests, and fire resistance. Now that revisions have been made, work on the hotel is underway.

The actual construction will be carried out by SunRise Hospitality, which builds hotels for various chains throughout the country. SunRise owner Ash Patel said the new hotel will have a fitness room, an indoor pool, and a meeting room. He expects to open in July or August, 2015.

In 2013, SunRise bought the property from its sister company, Ontario Hospitality, when the latter was unable to build on the site as scheduled. Patel said he feels that despite the fact that the new hotel will be in competition with five others already at the interchange, there are still not enough rooms to meet the demand. This means now is the right time to put up the new Marriott.

Marriott management could work with Stationery printers to create letterhead for the new hotel.
