Last month, residents from Medina and throughout the county enjoyed the 23rd annual Ice Festival.
The celebration is always scheduled for Presidents' Day weekend, with Medina's Public Square Historic District as its venue, and Elegant Ice being the host.
Elegant Ice is based in Broadview Heights, and is an ice sculpture company that creates works of art of all kinds from ice. Led by Aaron Costic, the team now has a studio comprising 8,000 square feet where they create their frosty wonders.
During the four-day festival, there were a number of carving competitions, most lasting approximately three hours. There were also several speed carving contests, with a 30-minute time limit. Over the length of the festival, there were around 87 carved ice sculptures displayed at the square.
The weather was unseasonably warm, which added a challenge, since the works melted in less than a day. In addition to racing against each other, carvers also had to beat the weather to get their sculptures finished within the time limit, and before they melted.
Costic said he loves Medina, which is a perfect place to hold the festival. He particularly likes Medina Square, and appreciates how pleasant Medina residents are.
Events like this can benefit if organizers work with a banner printing company, which can create sturdy Banners for outdoor use and add even more color to the occasion.
