Colerain youngster named Youth Ambassador

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has named Elaina Ward, a 10-year-old from Colerain Township, as one of its Youth Ambassadors for the upcoming school year.

To be selected as an ambassador, applicants must be children with Type 1 Diabetes. Applicants should set a good example for other people with the disease.

Ward received the diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes when she was nine-years-old. Since then she has been committed to fundraising, research for a cure and to supporting the JDRF.

Medical research organizations can use booklet printing to raise awareness about the conditions they focus on. The booklets can help educate the public and provide ambassadors for the organizations with material with which to educate others.

In her role as Youth Ambassador, Ward will spend the next year raising awareness about Type 1 Diabetes. She will address local businesses, hospitals, and schools, and also represent the foundation at a number of area events and will participate in events organized by the foundation.

The goal of the Youth Ambassador program is to empower young people with Type 1 Diabetes by encouraging them to educate the public about the condition.

Speaking to Cinncinnati.com, Ward stated:

"It’s hard to have a life-threatening condition that I can’t ever take a break from, and I had to grow up really fast because of that ... I’m a stronger person because of diabetes, but wish for a cure each and every time diabetes stops me from doing something I love."
