Colerain wraps up summer road repair

As the summer draws to a close, Colerain Township finds itself nearing the end of a number of road construction projects.

All in all, the township spent around $2.14m on fixing up streets throughout the area. Since there is no single income source dedicated to patching up and repairing roads, Colerain officials had to pull funds from a number of sources, including reserve funding and a settlement. The money for the fall road projects will come from a tax that drivers pay on license plate renewals.

The roadwork was performed by Barrett Paving Materials, Inc, which resurfaced nearly six miles of roadway and removed 5.3 miles of curb. The project began in June and is on track to be completed sometime this month.

City officials can use poster printing to alert residents to the projects their tax dollars fund. In the case of Colerain, it is particularly important that residents list the township as their residence when they fill out the paperwork to renew their license plates. If they fail to do this, the money will not be funneled back into the township – something Colerain Township Fiscal Officer Heather Harlow has been keen to point out.

After the summer work is finished, the plan is for the township to preserve the pavement and to treat nearly 1.5 miles of road over the course of the fall.
