Colerain to be well-heeled at workshop

Anyone curious to learn about the long history of shoemaking is beginning to prepare for a hands-on event taking place in February, employing some traditional techniques that can be traced back for hundreds of years.

The Colerain Shoemaking/Visioning Workshop will be held within a modern reconstruction of a ship's hull. The goal is to reproduce many of the conditions that traditional shoemakers would have experienced. Dubbed "Shoes for the Landlocked," organizers claim that this event will also provide a means to appreciate the skills and craftsmanship that can sometimes be forgotten in this more modern and technological era.

While this workshop is meant to cater to professional shoemakers, it is open to everyone. All materials will be provided, and guests can walk away with a pair of shoes once the event has concluded, with the shoes also acting as a metaphor for the steps and paths participants take in the future.

Events associated with speciality trades will often use economical advertising techniques. A handful of examples may include brochure printing and handing out Flyers in locations associated with the maritime sector.

The Colerain Shoemaking/Visioning Workshop is being held on Wednesday, February 4 and Wednesday, February 11. Activities begin at 6:00 PM and end at 9:00 PM. This event will be hosted at 2860 Colerain Avenue. Tickets cost $161.90 per person, although the workshop is free for all residents of Camp Washington.
