What's Happening in Cincinnati, OH…

Colerain courses help locals get green thumbs

Colerain community members can attend a few events offered by the Cincinnati Public Library to strengthen their gardening skills.

People interested in starting personal gardens this fall can partake in a series of virtual classes. Explore 101: Gardening in the Fall is a lesson organized by the Adult Learning Center that teaches viewers what plants are appropriate to grow during colder seasons and which crops are harvestable before the region experiences frost. The course will help guests by providing season-specific tips and defining the qualities of harvestable plants. The meetings will be held on Zoom.

The Groesbeck location will have a special in-person event where attendees can trade knowledge and plants with other gardeners. The Fall Plant and Harvest Swap allows people to exchange seeds, cuttings, and produce with the community to help neighbors learn about different types of plants. Those who bring something to the activity must include their plant’s name, growing habit, watering habit, and share its bloom color.

The in-person harvest swap will take place on Saturday, September 4th from 10:00 am to noon. The Gardening in the Fall series begins on Tuesday, September 7th and will continue until Tuesday, November 16th. Each session in the series will last from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Libraries offering similar gardening programs may use flyer printing to share the activities with others.
