Annual Memorial Walk brought forward

The organizers of the Megan Gore Memorial Walk have pushed the date of the walk up by two weeks, for a good cause.

The walk, which is in honor of Megan Gore, a young woman who passed away at age 19 in 2006 due to a brain aneurysm, usually takes place during the last week of July, so that it will be near her birthday, on July 28. Since Megan's mother and stepfather, Jen and Andy Barlow, will be traveling to New Orleans that weekend, the walk will take place a little earlier this year.

The trip to New Orleans is being made in Megan's honor, as she had discussed going to the city to help. Since then, the Barlows have traveled to New Orleans several times to help out.

The goal of the walk is to serve as a fundraiser for the Megan Gore Memorial Scholarship, which is given to a Colerain High School student every May. The recipient of the scholarship needs to demonstrate the qualities Megan is best remembered for, including dedication to the community, leadership, and commitment to education.

Registration for the walk starts at 9:00 am and the cost to participate is $15. The walk itself will start at 10:00 am and go until 1:00 pm this Saturday, July 11, at Colerain Park. As is often the case for organized walks, sign and banner printing companies have no doubt played a role in providing decoration and directional information.
