Administrator in Colerain given Leadership Award

The Hamilton County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board presented Dan Meloy with the 2017 Leadership Award.

Meloy received the award from Tom Synan, the police chief from Newton, during an annual luncheon and ceremony earlier this month.

The board recognized Meloy because of his work putting a Quick Response Team in Colerain. The team began by pairing firefighters or paramedics up with police officers to provide drug intervention services to drug users, as an alternative to jail or other consequences. Later on, Colerain added services from trained counselors to the program.

The Quick Response Team concept has spread to other regions and is now used across the US. Cities and town looking to create a team of their own can use brochures to explain the concept to police officers, EMTs, counselors and firefighters.

Speaking to the Community Press, Michael Inderhees, a trustee with Colerain Township, said:

"Dan's work and the entire team's work to save lives and make a difference in the lives of others should be celebrated."

The Leadership award isn't the first recognition Meloy has received. He received the innovation award from the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration earlier in the year.

Additionally, Colerain Township was awarded the Cincinnatus Government Cooperation Award because of the Quick Response Team.

Since the end of April 2017, 82 percent of the people helped by the Quick Response Team had entered a recovery program.
