Avon Lake to have an eclipse viewing party
Avon Lake will be organizing a community viewing activity in October at Bleser Park.
The Partial Annular Eclipse Viewing Party is a program where families can experience a fun space-related activity and safely view the natural phenomenon. The Avon Lake Public Library will have crafting activities for children, and refreshments will be offered by Avon Lake Parks & Recreation while supplies last. Food trucks will also be at Bleser Park. The first 250 people to register for the viewing party will be given a pair of solar eclipse glasses to use at the event.
Suzie Dills, a local astronomer, will be attending the party with a special telescope guests can use to safely view the sun. Dills works at the Hoover-Price Planetarium as its current planetarium director, and has written a children’s book series titled Stella’s Starry Adventures. She is also the creator of Starry Trails, a monthly publication for those who like backyard stargazing. Dills was a planetarium specialist at the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center.
The viewing party will be on Saturday, October 14 from 11:30am to 2:30pm. The event is free to the community, and pre-registration is not mandatory for coming to the activity. Local organizations that work together to make programs like this may use poster printing services to promote these group events to families.
