Avon Lake class to help people track their ancestors

A professional genealogist will offer an online class at the Avon Lake Public Library in November to teach people helpful genealogy techniques.

Discover Your Past: Tracking Your Ancestors Using Timelines to Enhance Your Research is a program where people can improve how they track their ancestors. The lesson shows how timelines can help researchers better understand the lives and relationships of their ancestors. The class instructor is Kate Townsend, an experienced lecturer who started her career as an investigator of financial crimes. She gives presentations on many topics, like how to effectively document research and the importance of preserving family history.

Townsend is also the owner of Family History Investigations, a company offering genealogical research services. The business helps people retrieve documents from repositories in states like Ohio and Maryland. The company offers one-on-one research consultations and can help clients design family history books. A two-hour consultation with Townsend will cost clients $250. The organization does not work on adoption cases.

The lesson will be on Thursday, November 2nd from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. There is no cost to take part in Townsend’s lesson, although registration for the lecture is required. Adults are the intended audience for the event, and there are limited spots in the Zoom call for registrants. Libraries offering similar workshops to this may use print shops to produce posters for their activities.
