Patchogue shows support for female veterans
Patchogue residents can participate in the 5K for Fighters event. The proceeds from this run will go towards programs specifically targeting women veterans.
Normally, this event takes place at Shorefront Park in Patchogue. This year, however, the event will be virtual. There will be no t-shirts this year, but a running bib will be mailed out to all runners. Additionally, there will be an instructional sheet with additional directions for how to participate in the virtual run mailed with the bib. The bib will feature a unique graphic design of the 2019 sponsors because the organizers will not be taking in new sponsors this year.
The 5K for Fighters event takes place on October 10 in Patchogue. Runners can begin posting times from October 10 until October 18. Runners should expect to receive bibs in 3–5 business days after registration. The registration fee is $35 and is at a reduced cost compared to previous years. The first 100 to register will receive a special gift. Participants can run at any time, although running on or around October 10 is encouraged. Runners can choose their running locations.
An additional donation can be made to the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, which focuses on helping female veterans through a variety of programs that help them achieve an independent life.
