Patchogue sees in spring with concert

The Island Symphony Orchestra will present ‘A Classical World’ as its annual Patchogue spring concert early in April.

The Long Island-wide orchestra will be under the baton of Eric R. Stewart. The program will feature Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Sibelius’s Finlandia, and Berlioz’s Hungarian March.

The day’s special guest will be internationally acclaimed pianist, Wayne Weng, who will play Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor. Weng has won the 2013 Iowa Piano Competition and a prize at the Washington International Competition for Piano. He has performed in venues from Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, to Mozarthaus in Austria.

The piece he will be playing is composed for a pianist and full orchestra. It has three movements – ‘Maestoso, Adagio, and allegro non troppo’. The work demonstrates the deep, rich resonances for which Brahms is known.

The orchestra, originally called the Long Island Senior Symphony, consists of around 60 members from the ages of 30 to over 90 who enjoy playing classical music with others. Patrons may enjoy doing a little flyer printing and placing flyers in their businesses and organizations.

Tickets will run from $13.50 to $25.00 and can be purchased either online at the theatre’s website, or at the venue’s box office.

The orchestra’s performance will take place on Sunday, April 7 at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts at 71 East Main Street. The curtain will go up at 2:00 pm.
