Patchogue runs for those in need

Patchogue’s Kiwanis Club will be hosting its annual Santa’s 5K Toy Trot again this year in early December.

Pre-registration for the Santa Trot 5K will be $30 and registration at the event will be $35. The Mrs. Claus Mile will cost $20 to pre-register and $25 on race day, while the Rudolph Fun Run will be free.

Top three overall female and male finishers will receive $300 for first place, $175 for second, and $125 for third. The top three female and male finishers in the Masters division (for runners age 40+) will get $100, $50 and $25 respectively. Anyone breaking course records will receive an extra $100.

Profits will go to the Kiwanis Foundation and all runners and spectators are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys for the Community Toy Drive.

Runners who registered before November 17 received long-sleeve tech tees sporting the Santa Tot Trot graphic design, and their bibs will have their names on them just like the pros.

A warming tent with live music will be at the start/finish line and refreshments will be served after the races.

Rain, shine or snow, the Trot will take place Sunday, December 8 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at Shorefront Park, 49 Smith Street. Check-in will begin at 10:00 am with the 5K beginning at 11:00 am. Runners can check-in the day before from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm at the Brickhouse Brewery, 67 W. Main Street.
