Long Island native to appear on Dancing With the Stars

The long-running ‘Dancing with the Stars’ show will offer a bit of local flair, at least for Levittown and Long Island residents, when its 25th season begins.

Debbie Gibson, a native of Merrick, is scheduled to join the cast of stars appearing on the reality dancing competition. Celebrities can use marketing services to let their hometowns and other people know about what is going on in their professional lives.

Gibson might be best remembered for the song, ‘Only in My Dreams’, which appeared on the Billboard charts in 1987, when she was just 16-years-old. Gibson went on to earn a world record, as the youngest person to ever produce, write and perform a top-charting song. "Foolish Beat" earned her a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. As of 2017, she holds onto the record, as the youngest female to produce, write and perform a number 1 pop song.

Her appearance on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ will not be Gibson's first foray into reality TV. She appeared on the ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ in 2012, raising more than $50,000 for Children International. She also appeared as a celebrity judge on ‘Sing Your Face Off’, also on ABC, in 2014. She also hosted the American Music Awards.

Gibson was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014.
