Levittown Board of Education rewards students

At a recent public meeting, the Levittown Board of Education singled out several students who have gone above and beyond when it comes to achievement.

At the March 14 meeting, the board of education handed out certificates to several students who won their individual school competitions before the Long Island Regional Scripps Spelling Bee.

The students included several fifth graders from Abbey Lane Elementary School, East Broadway School, Gardiners Avenue School, and Northside School. Two of the students, Charith Maddipatia from Northside School and Melody Hong from East Broadway school, made it to the regional competition. Alex Gao, a sixth grade student from Wisdom Lane Middle school, took fourth place for Nassau County.

Also recognized at the meeting were several high school students. Ryan Alvarez from Division Avenue High and Nicholas Portello from MacArthur High School share their experiences and impressions for the Advanced Placement Capstone program. The students presented their research projects, which focused on issues in the food service industry.

Students were not the only focus of the public board meeting. The start of the meeting featured a reception for those on the PTA. Todd Winch, the assistant superintendent for instruction, personally thanked the PTA members and applauded them for driving the district's vision forward.

School districts that want to recognize the hard work of students can use Stationery printers to produce certificates for them.
