Students, faculty, and other community members at Division Avenue High School in Levittown recently joined together to support a fellow student. The high school held "Walk for William," a fundraiser, on June 13.
The fundraiser was to raise support for William Torres, a sophomore at the school. Torres suffered a traumatic injury earlier in the month, while in a pool. He is expected to recover, but the cost of medical treatment will be high and the process is expected to take a long time.
The fundraiser took place at the high school's football field from 6pm until 8:30pm. Along with collecting a $5 entrance fee from attendees, the organizers of the event were able to collect donations from local businesses and families, which were given away in a raffle. Raffle tickets cost $1 each or $5 for six tickets. Organizers sometimes use a local Print company to produce event tickets and Flyers to advertise such events.
Prizes in the raffle included a $25 gift card to Miller’s Ale House, an open bounce session at Laser Bounce, Chocolate Cake Baking Basket, and men's and women's care baskets.
During the event, students walked around the school's track, carrying a flag with 21 on it (Torres' number) and wearing T-Shirts reading "Strong Willed" on the front, with Torres' name and number on the back.
