The Atlantis Marine Conservation Society will organize a lecture on sea turtles next month. The event will be in-person, and Levittown residents are welcome to participate.
The lecture will give an introduction to the sea turtles of the world, while also focusing on turtle species that live around New York. Materials for these events are usually produced with the support of Print shops.
Biologists from Atlantis Marine will talk about the environmental and human threats sea turtles face, like fisheries, debris, and cold-stunning. Guests will also learn about why sea turtles are crucial parts of the environment and the differences this animal can bring.
The event will take place at the Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center in Wantagh. Since the lecture is in person, guests and staff are required to follow COVID-19 policies. Everyone will need to wear face masks and maintain social distancing while at the center.
The lecture will happen on June 12 between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM. Registration for the event is free, and guests can find the center on 150 Bay Parkway.
A follow-up lecture will also take place two weeks later, on June 26. The second lecture will expand on the information of the first. Participants will learn more about New York turtles, and how to check beaches for cold-stunned turtles.
