Three high-profile construction projects were approved by the Buffalo Planning Board on February 25. Developer Rocco Termini, the Flying Bison Brewery, and The Benchmark Group all won Board approval for widely differing builds on the day.
Termini plans to create a mixed-use development by renovating the old American Radiator Co. building, located at 1807 Elmwood Avenue. In addition to retail space, the upgrade will include 38 apartments. He has two other projects in the same neighborhood: the Houk Lofts were created by renovating a 100-year-old Grote Street building; and the renovation of the former FWS warehouse created the Distillery Lofts.
Flying Bison Brewery will demolish a building located at 840 Seneca Street, replacing it with a brewery and tasting room comprising 13,000 square feet. The brewer is moving to the Larkin District from Black Rock, and anticipates the move will result in a 40% increase in annual production.
The third approval went to The Benchmark Group, which plans a new structure at 766 Elmwood Avenue. The building will be a mixed-use development, with 24 apartments above a retail area on the first floor. Benchmark also plans to build a parking lot for 25 vehicles.
Buffalo officials might consider working with brochure printers to create a mailer for realtors highlighting these developments as examples of the opportunities to be found in the city.
