Buffalo's Shakespeare in Delaware Park is up and running for the summer, with two productions – rollicking comedy ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ and the far darker tragedy ‘Macbeth’.

Lisa Ludwig, who is the theater's managing director, says that seeing Shakespeare on stage is “a very cool experience” and is the way the plays were meant to be enjoyed.

The production of ‘Wives’ features an all-female cast, and Kate Konigisor, who plays Master Ford, calls it “comedy on steroids.” Noting the humor involved in the show, she enjoys wearing men's clothes for the part and taking on a male role, and says that the audience will forget they are watching women, and become involved with the characters.

Konigisor and other cast members studied men, their mannerisms, and their physical traits to prepare for the show, but said the role is really the same as any other — to create a character the audience believes is real. She also hopes to introduce new audiences to the magic of live theater, and Shakespeare in particular.

The Merry Wives of Windsor is running through July 16, Tuesdays through Sundays at 7:30 pm. ‘Macbeth’ runs from July 27 through August 20, also at 7:30 pm, Tuesdays through Sundays.
