Renovation planned for building on Fillmore Avenue

A 76-year-old building on Fillmore Avenue on Buffalo's East Side is slated for demolition, but its owner wants to change all that.

Donna M. Taha, a Michigan resident, wants to renovate the building, located at 1415 Fillmore, to include three storefronts as well as putting on an addition. Taha estimates the project would cost $600,000, and would bring back some retail development to the area.

Currently 0.31-acre site holds the building, which offers 3,835 square feet. Taha would add an addition of 2,600 square feet, which would then create room for five retailers, as well as ten parking spaces.

The architect on the project is Anthony O. James, whose designs will go before the Planning Board this month. Representatives of both James and Taha have met with the local business association to get support for the project, as well as public input on the development.

If the proposal is approved, construction on the project could start as early as this June, with the renovation scheduled to be finished by fall. If tenants move into the first three storefronts quickly, construction of the addition would start in the spring of 2017. Overall, the project will bring in 10-15 jobs in construction, as well as 10-15 permanent jobs in the retail sector.

The developer might want to create Brochures about the project, and make them available to commercial realtors in the area.
