Pop up shops to emerge in Buffalo

Pop up shops—small stores that open and close within a matter of days or weeks—are about to open in Buffalo, with five retailers considering opening up in the Market Arcade, located on Main Street.

An initiative known as ‘Queen City Pop Up’, which seeks to draw retailers to Main Street, the backbone of the central business district of Buffalo, has found several companies interested in the project. Working together, Buffalo Place Inc., Working for Downtown, and the Buffalo Urban Development Corp. have found five organizations that qualify under the program. Sellers are given free space in the arcade during the holidays in the hope they will open spaces downtown permanently.

The Market Arcade Building, which is located at 617 Main Street, is a Buffalo landmark, and was owned by the city until it was bought by Sinatra & Co. earlier in the year. The new owners agreed to donate free space for the ‘pop up’ shops.

The five pop ups are Azariah Innocence, Buffalo Adore, Preferred Werk, Rust Belt Love, and Uniquely You. Azariah sells bath products, Buffalo Adore sells Buffalo-themed items, Preferred Werk is a clothier, Rust Belt sells Buffalo-related gifts, and Uniquely You is a jewelery store.

Sinatra & Co. could work with brochure printers to create a mailer for residents describing the program, and the five retailers, and urging them to shop for holiday gifts in the pop up stores.
