Performing arts organizations join forces

Three of Buffalo's performing arts organizations are teaming up for a special production.

Torn Space Theater, LehrerDance, and the Irish Classical Theatre Company will come together to present an innovative performance of two rare plays by Irish writer William Butler Yeats – ‘At the Hawk's Well’, and ‘The Land of Heart's Desire’. They will be performed under the title ‘The Yeats Project: Two Plays by W.B. Yeats’.

‘At the Hawk's Well’ is a Sisyphus-like story of an old man who waits years to drink from a well, only to fall asleep every time the waters appear. When the Irish hero Cuchulain comes to the well, he too misses his chance. ‘The Land of Heart's Desire’ is a fable about a young bride who becomes so enchanted by legends that she dies in order to live in the enchanted world of the fairies.

Vincent O'Neill, who will direct the performances, said each of the companies is making a unique contribution. Torn Space, which occasionally designs site-specific shows, will transform the Andrews Theatre. LehrerDance will use physicality to enhance the plays, while the Irish Classical Theatre will use its background to bring Irish legends to life.

Performances start April 22 and run through May 8, at the Andrews Theatre on Main Street. Admission prices range from $20 to $35. The organizers could work with a poster printing company to create eye-catching Posters for the show.
