What's Happening in Buffalo, NY…

Residents of Buffalo and the surrounding area will soon have a new hotel to enjoy.

It was reported late last month that, Niagara Falls’ city Planning Board unanimously approved a site plan for a new ‘Wingate by Wyndham’ hotel. Projected to cost $10m, it will have 110 rooms and stand four stories tall, and is to be located at Fourth Street and Rainbow Boulevard. Niagara Falls is only 19 miles from Buffalo, and can be reached in about 30 minutes.

The project developer is Plati Niagara, which is a holding company comprising Frank and Anthony Strangio, who also own a Quality Inn and a banquet facility. According to Frank, groundbreaking for the hotel should occur later in 2013, but the next part of the process is to request bids from construction companies for the work. It is believed that the project will create 25 full-time jobs at least, and possibly as many as 30.

The new building will house not only the hotel, but also approximately 4,000 square feet on the ground floor, which will be retail spaces. Projected tenants include a restaurant, though Frank did not mention any other types of businesses that might lease space in the building.

The City Council also approved the hotel’s request to encroach approximately 10 feet onto a public thoroughfare in order to put up a canopy at the building’s main entrance. This will also be a drop-off point for hotel guests who arrive in autos.

Plati Niagara could work with brochure printers to create a mailer targeted to merchants who might consider leasing ground floor space.
