A multi-award-winning artist will appear soon in Buffalo.

Pat Benatar is a rock legend, and has inspired other women to make their mark in the genre.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Benatar has classical training as a mezzo-soprano, and has won four Grammys. The 1980s were hugely successful for the artist, who released three albums that were certified Gold by the RIAA; five albums certified Platinum by the RIAA; and two albums certified Multi-Platinum. She also had 19 singles in the Top 40, including four in the Top 10, including the classics “Love Is a Battlefield” and “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”

Benatar was working as a bank teller when she saw a concert in Richmond, Virginia. She quit her bank job in 1973 and gigged around Richmond with a group known as Coxon’s Army, but left for New York City in 1975.

She performed at an open mic night at Catch a Rising Star where she sang “Rock A Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody,” which generated a huge, positive audience response. The club owner, Rich Newman, saw her, and that was the start of their professional manager/artist relationship, which lasted for 15 years.

Benatar has sold about 36 million albums globally, won four Grammys, and earned induction into the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame.
