Iroquois Beer about to be on tap again

Community Beer Works is relaunching a brand today, bringing a much-missed beer back to the city.

In 1830, Iroquois Beer was founded in Buffalo, but it has not been sold in the city for 47 years.

At one time, almost all beers were local brews. This included Iroquois Beer, but despite being brewed starting in the 1830s, it did not become well known until sometime in the 1890s. At that time, approximately 50 breweries were making beer in Buffalo. At its height, Iroquois was making and selling more beer than all of the other breweries combined. The company had 550 workers, made half a million barrels of beer annually, and kept three plants running.

The company was a presence in the western part of the state, with its slogan and logo found everywhere

Community Beer Works has not revealed whether or not it is using the original recipe, but says their beer will be a light American lager. Availability will be limited at first, but CBW hopes to be in full production later in the spring.

The new Iroquois Beer will be served for the first time in nearly 50 years at 5:00 pm this evening (February 1) , at Hotel Henry on Forest Avenue.
