Fantasia Monique Barrino, who goes by Fantasia, won the third “American Idol” series, broadcast in 2004. Singing R&B, gospel, and soul, Fantasia has a smooth and powerful voice that has translated from the television screen to a successful career in music.
Her single “I Believe” went to the top of the US Billboard charts. She also found great success with “Free Yourself,” her debut album, which the RIAA rated Platinum. The album won her three Grammy nominations, including Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, which got the nod for her version of “Summertime.”
Her sophomore album, 2006’s “Fantasia,” included the huge hit “When I See U,” and she went on to sing a duet with the legendary Aretha Franklin on “Put You Up on Game” in 2007. Her album releases include 2010’s “Back to Me,” and “Side Effects of You,” out in 2013. Both went to No. 2 on the Billboard 200. She won a Grammy in 2011 for “Bittersweet,” a single. The award was for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. A concert review says:
