An office building in downtown Buffalo has been snapped up by the foundation that supports the efforts of Spectrum Human Services.

The organization has purchased a building at 1280 Main Street. The structure, which comprises 38,000 square feet, was sold for $1.6m by the White Elephant Family Trust. Spectrum has been leasing the building for the last 15 years, and operates a number of its programs in that location.

Spectrum Human Services was founded in 1973, and currently has a total of 240 employees. Of them, 99 work in the building on Main Street, where the agency occupies three of the structure's four floors. Spectrum works with recently released prisoners, people with addictions, troubled young people, and others in crisis.

By buying the building for Spectrum, its supporting foundation has made the organization's survival in the Main Street location a certainty. The building is close to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, which is desirable considering the services Spectrum provides. One level of the building houses the Veterans’ One Stop Center, which will remain in place as a tenant.

Supporting foundation officials might like to work with brochure printers on a booklet explaining their actions. The booklet could be made available to those who receive services from the agency, reassuring them that it is more secure than ever.
