Bruce Hornsby formed his first group, Bruce Hornsby and the Range, in 1984. RCA Records signed them the next year and, in 1986, their song “The Way It Is,” topped the Billboard 200 chart and then hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA, and in 1987, the group won the “Best New Artist” Grammy. The song remains Hornsby’s most-recognized hit.
His 1990 release, “A Night on the Town,” also hit the charts, making it to No. 23 in the UK and No. 20 in the US. The track “Across the River” featured extensive guitar work by Grateful Dead legend Jerry Garcia. In fact, Hornsby was a touring member of the Dead, playing over 100 shows with the band.
This versatile artist has continued to collaborate extensively with other artists, and with the group Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, dropped his latest album, “Rehab Reunion,” in 2016.
