New York State recently approved funding for projects at Buffalo's Waterfront, enabling plans to move ahead. There are four projects that will soon be underway.
The first project is also the most expensive, carrying a price tag of almost $4m. The work is to be done at the outer harbor's southern end, near the state park, and will consist of building an area being called the “great lawn”. An urban biking path, complete with biking and walking trails, is also part of the project. It will take a year to complete, with construction starting this month.
The second project considers a parcel of about 140 acres on the outer harbor, where most of the property is vacant. Efforts here will include renovating Michigan Pier, habitat restoration, and a significant amount of environmental remediation.
The final two projects will have consultants considering two sites. The first is a 15-acre area near the harbor's north end. Officials would like to relocate the Queen City Bike Ferry to this area, after it has been updated.
The last project is an effort to determine how best to use Terminal B. The mammoth building comprises 100,000 square feet, and could be used for many activities that could make the outer harbor a destination for residents and visitors year-round. The projects should be finished by 2020.
Plans like this are interesting and exciting, so officials might consider working with a flyer printing company to create a letter for residents.
