Downtown Buffalo street eligible for more money

A part of downtown Buffalo's Main Street is now eligible for more money from the state.

Buffalo Place is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the city's downtown business district. Officials of the group say that a portion of Main Street in the downtown may now be able to receive funding from the state for renovations and redevelopments in the district.

The money is coming from the Better Buffalo Fund's Buffalo Main Streets Initiative, which is part of the Buffalo Billion initiative of Governor Cuomo. The Main Streets Initiative has been utilized in three previous funding rounds, with the money going to projects in 20 of the city's commercial corridors, one of which was another part of Main Street.

However, the section of Main Street located directly in the downtown has not been included before, according to Buffalo Place officials. The upcoming, fourth round of grants will allow projects and building owners between Mohawk and Seneca Streets on Main to apply for funding. However, Seneca One tower is not included. Grants will be available for neighborhood business groups and nonprofits, who can then transfer the funds to individual efforts. Amounts between $50,000 and $500,000 will be available. Graphic design can be used to redesign printed materials for projects like this as they are finished.

Buffalo corridors that have received funds previously include Connecticut Street, Upper Niagara Street, Jefferson Avenue, East Delavan, and Allentown.
