Joe Bonamassa is celebrated as one of the world’s greatest blues guitarists. Although the blues is a form of traditional American music, Bonamassa was more influenced by European artists. By age 12, Bonamassa was opening for the legendary B.B. King and although he respected other musicians such as Robert Johnson and T-Bone Walker, he more often listened to artists like Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton. The influence of these musicians on his music is found in his rock approach to the blues.
Bonamassa released “A New Day Yesterday,” his debut album, in 2002, and saw it climb to the No. 9 position on the U.S. Billboard Top Blues Albums. His second album, “So, It’s Like That,” comprising entirely original music, went all the way to the No. 1 spot on the same chart. Since he began recording, Bonamassa has dropped an album nearly every year. His most recent solo studio album, “Time Clocks,” appeared in 2021.
