As Buffalo's downtown changes, the KeyCenter and Bank of America Building, located at Fountain Plaza, is getting a new look.
According to the Buffalo News, Ciminelli Real Estate Corporation manages the KeyCenter facility and wants to change the way the complex looks and feels. This is in response to the changing mix of the building's tenants, the growth of Canalside as a destination, and auto traffic returning to Main Street.
Among the changes in the KeyCenter are the closure of Vito's Market and Coffee Culture. However, IBM is moving into the building and bringing 500 workers with it. Paul Ciminelli, CEO of Ciminelli Real Estate, notes that some of the companies that moved out occupied ground-floor retail space, while others sold food and beverages. He anticipates that IBM's employees might well want to have other retail and food options available.
Main Street, which has been one-way, will be restored to two-way traffic, bringing with it an increase in activity in the area. Landlords of various buildings along Main are considering redeveloping them. In addition, there is a potential for ice skating at Canalside, which again would mean an increase of visitors. Ciminelli wants to make sure that Fountain Plaza is a welcoming venue for those coming to the area.
The developer could work with brochure printers to create a booklet for commercial realtors, pointing out the advantages of leasing space in Fountain Plaza.
