The Larkinville district, east of downtown Buffalo, was once home to heavy industry and gigantic warehouses, but the area is on its way to becoming one of the trendiest spots in the city to live, work, and play.
The warehouses have already been converted into hip office spaces, but now a new element has been added to the mix: residential development.
Throughout 2016, three huge block warehouses will be remodeled into housing lofts. The projects are being handled by three different developers, but will take place almost simultaneously. The three buildings are at 500 Seneca Street, 545 Swan Street, and 550 Seneca Street, and when finished, will offer a minimum of 281 apartments, plus restaurants, office spaces, a distillery, and amenities for the buildings' tenants.
Developers are depending upon Larkinville to bring people who want to live in a trendy area. They are betting that the three buildings will be the beginning of many such renovations in the district.
The bet seems to be a good one; at the new Seneca Street Lofts, located at 550 Seneca, 41 units are finished and open, with residents already occupying 30 of the apartments, with five more lofts under contract.
