Buffalo Philharmonic reveals January concerts

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra has announced two upcoming concerts, with Dennis Kim, the orchestra's concertmaster, leading the ensemble.

The performances will be given by the Buffalo Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, which comprises members of the symphony, and will take the orchestra to two other area cities, Clarence and East Aurora.

The program consists of ‘The Four Seasons’ by Vivaldi, with Kim both conducting and performing as featured soloist. The second piece is Bach's Concerto for Violin and Oboe, featuring the orchestra’s Principal Oboe, Henry Ward.

Ward was acting principal oboist from January until June 2015, when he won the position permanently. Kim, too, is relatively new to the organization, having become concertmaster at the beginning of the 2015-2016 season. Kim has conducted the ‘Winter’ section of The Four Seasons before, but this is the first time he will lead the entire work. Kim says he has been interested in doing this type of concert in Buffalo, since Baroque music is rarely performed in the area. He also welcomes the challenge of both playing and conducting simultaneously.

The East Aurora concert will take place January 11 at 7:30 pm, at Nativity Lutheran Church. On January 12, the concert will be at Clarence Presbyterian Church, also at 7:30 pm.
