Last Thursday, January 28, ScrabbleFest kicked off at The Filling Station restaurant in Larkin Square in Buffalo.
The kick-off evening signals that the festival of the popular word-based board game has begun, with guests asked to contribute $20 that will go toward the promotion of literacy in the Buffalo region. Alfred Mosher Butts invented Scrabble in 1938, and ever since, millions of people around the world have enjoyed playing it. In Buffalo, the Literacy New York Buffalo-Niagara (LNYBN) organization sponsors a yearly ScrabbleFest tournament, designed to promote literacy throughout the area as well as test players' skills.
During the festival, games are played at businesses, local restaurants, and homes. The games are played throughout the month of March, and once the first round games have been played, the finals of ScrabbleFest take place at Buffalo's Central Library.
The finals of ScrabbleFest are slated to take place at the Central Library from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on March 31.
