A group of underprivileged kids enjoyed something recently that some had never had before—dinner at a first-class restaurant.
The meal was a treat courtesy of Buffalo Sabres' player Evander Kane, who took 50 children to Tempo, a destination restaurant in downtown Buffalo. Tempo dates back to 1878, and is a Tuscan villa.
This is not the first time Kane has footed the bill for needy children; in 2015, he took 50 children to Chef's, and then treated them to a Target shopping spree worth $10,000. This time, the shopping spree was not part of the evening, as he wanted to focus more on the exceptional dinner. Kane says the restaurant helped by becoming something of a sponsor of the event.
Kane realizes that many of the children see holiday commercials for gadgets, toys, and electronics, and watch with resignation, since they know they will not be receiving any gifts. He is at the end of a six-year contract that paid him $31.5m, and wanted to use his good fortune to help others.
Kane does not reserve his generosity just for Christmas; he delivered a feast of pizza to children in Vancouver, his home town, earlier this summer. For the dinner, he says he was probably more excited about the event than anyone else.
