What's Happening in Buffalo, NY…

Buffalo's Salon Professional Academy recently hosted a fundraiser to help the Food Bank of Western New York.

On September 27, the salon held an event to ‘Trim Hunger’. During the event, patrons of the cosmetology and beauty school could get their hair cut by students for $10, pay $20 for a cut by an instructor, or opt for other services. For an additional $5, patrons were able to have orange polish, which is the official color designated for hunger awareness, applied to their thumbnails. Every dollar raised went to the food bank.

Peggy Grenauer owns the salon, and her friend Sharon Grandoni came out to support both her and the effort to end hunger. Grandoni said going to the school for a new hairstyle and orange nail polish allowed her to support both a good cause and a good friend.

In addition to offering professional services at greatly reduced rates, the salon collected nonperishable food items through Wednesday, September 30, which it also donated to the food bank. Clients who donated food got a $3 voucher for salon future services.

The salon could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for current customers, and others in a targeted area, describing the event, urging them to donate food now, and asking for their participation in future Trim Hunger days.
