Buffalo city officials have asked the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation (BUDC) to help plan and develop the downtown waterfront, according to an article in the Buffalo News.
The BUDC is a non-profit agency of the city that in the past was responsible for developing the Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park, and the Northland Corridor. Now the corporation is going to create parkland, as it spearheads the effort to create the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park from the existing LaSalle Park. Officials working on this type of project could use Print shops to create neighborhood newsletters for residents, detailing the development's progress.
The effort has been spurred by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, which has committed $50 million to rename and redevelop the park, which is on the city's waterfront. The BUDC has already received a grant in the amount of $2.8 million. The funds, which will be provided over a three-year period, will be used to hire a third-party company to manage the project and develop the park, which has a number of projects included in the overall redesign.
BUDC also received an additional grant for almost $4 million, which will be used to fund the due-diligence work to determine the feasibility of the park's design, and associated costs. The second grant should enable construction drawings to be created, which will then be used to start actual work on the park. No completion date has been discussed.
