Buffalo announces Citizen Police Academy

Buffalo city officials recently announced the upcoming Citizen Police Academy.

Byron W. Brown, the mayor of Buffalo, along with Byron C. Lockwood, the police commissioner, said applications are available now for the upcoming 2019 Police and Community Together (P.A.C.T.) Buffalo Citizen Police Academy.

According to Mayor Brown, the purpose of the Academy is to provide an opportunity for police and residents to increase their communication and understanding of each other. By improving relations between the police and Buffalo residents, Brown says, it's hoped the city will be an even better place to work, live, and raise a family.

The P.A.C.T. Program is free, and is aimed at building a lasting relationship between attendees and members of the police department. The ultimate goal is to reduce crime, and for the police to become the best law enforcement agency in the city. Print shops are frequently used to develop materials for programs like this.

Subjects to be covered include:

Vehicle and traffic stops, using role playing;
Patrol operations;
Basic crime prevention;
Police investigations;
Criminal investigations;
Community outreach efforts;
Police and community relations;
Community policing.

The Academy will begin October 1, a Tuesday, and continue each Tuesday through November 19. The course will take place in Room 319 at the Buffalo Police Training Academy, located on Court Street, The sessions will be three hours long, from 6.00 pm until 9.00 pm. There will be a graduation and reception at the end of the course.
