Nickel Creek is a bluegrass band made up of Chris Thile on the mandolin, Sean Watkins handling the guitar, and his sister Sara on the fiddle. The acoustic trio first got its start in 1989 and, while they took a break in 2007, are firmly back together and on the road again.
Thus far, the band has released seven studio albums, with various degrees of success. After a modest start, their 2000 self-titled debut album “Nickel Creek,” which Alison Kraus produced, earned a Platinum rating, as well as nominations for both CMA and the Grammy. They did win a Grammy for 2002’s “This Side.”
Following the release of a fifth studio album and a compilation album, Nickel Creek decided to go on hiatus. Each of the members worked on various solo projects, until the band reformed in 2014. A concert review notes:
“It's no surprise that the members of Nickel Creek have enjoyed success outside of the band, but seeing them together once again is a reminder of what these three artists are capable of when they combine their 25-year chemistry.”
The band’s special guest artist is Monica Martin, a songwriter and singer who moved to Los Angeles from Wisconsin. She was the frontwoman for PHOX, an alt-folk band from Baraboo.
Nickle Creek will be at the University of Buffalo Center for the Arts on Saturday, March 23. Promoters who schedule shows like this often turn to poster printing to create advertising for an event.
