Buffalo poised for new business opportunities

Governor Cuomo has made it official; New York State is bullish on business. The governor just announced a $50 million advertising campaign set to launch in May that will target industry leaders across the country with a simple message: the Empire State welcomes their business.

It’s hoped this crusade will attract a rush of new jobs and investment to communities across the state.

This latest move by the governor delighted officials in the Buffalo area, however, it’s only the tip of the region’s economic iceberg.

Earlier in the year, Gov. Cuomo announced he would invest $1 billion directly into Buffalo's economy. His plan, unveiled this past January, included tax incentives as well as other financial measures, for businesses willing to relocate or expand in the city.

John R. Keolmel, CEO of First Niagara Financial Group, hailed the governor’s economic commitment as the opportunity of a lifetime, an offer that holds the promise of a road map for Buffalo to finally achieve sustainable success.

Other area business leaders, like James Kalaski, CEO of Kalieda Health and Great Lakes Health, are also upbeat about the City’s future prospects. From expansion of the Medical Campus to redevelopment efforts in downtown neighborhoods, he thinks Signs of an economic turnaround can be seen everywhere.

With the city’s municipal and business leaders pledging their support for Gov. Cuomo’s efforts, the region is solidly poised for job and business growth. Businesses already operating in Buffalo should see the benefit of this investment. For instance, Print shops are likely to see a sharp rise in the demand for Business Cards, Stationery, and brochure printing as new businesses spring up.

As CEO Keolmel stated in his speech at The Buffalo News' Prospectus Premiere, the area is looking at "enormous opportunities" that "this region has not seen in a long time, if ever."
