Williamsville area workshop to attract area bird nerds

Birding is a hobby that combines science, relaxation and environmental stewardship, and an upcoming activity near Williamsville will help those who are new to the pastime to hit the ground running.

Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens want to introduce the joys of birding to a new crop of people, and to help get them started, the venue will be offering seats in a class that will introduce some of the basics of attracting feathered friends to their yard. It will be focused on common backyard species, and subject matter expect Joyce Sabuda will share her knowledge with the crowd.

The class will teach how incorporating plants that offer food and shelter can make a site more welcoming to many types of birds. Tips will be shared for choosing the right food and feeder style, and everyone will have a chance to put together basic feeding stations before they head for home. It will provide an opportunity for local “bird nerds” to meet and get to know each other.

Providing adults with continuing education classes helps them to keep learning throughout their lives. Materials for a lesson or other activity can be prepared by Stationery printers for almost any occasion.

The “Intro to Birding in Your Backyard” make-and-take will be on offer on March 23. It will begin at 6:00 pm, and it is scheduled for 2655 South Park Avenue in West Seneca.
