When autumn makes its arrival in Amherst, its gardeners will be learning how to harvest, store, and save seeds to plant out next spring.
Late September will be time for the Seed Saving Workshop set for Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village. The venue is located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst, and it will take place in the afternoon.
The session, which will be facilitated by a member of Grassroots Gardens WNY, will cover the basics of seed saving and is geared towards the beginner. It will include topics such as choosing which seeds to store, how to process them, and how to preserve them so they may be viable for years to come. It will be a hands-on occasion, and everyone is encouraged to bring some seeds from home to work with. Space is limited and registration is required. All supplies needed will be provided.
Many gardeners take their hobby seriously and appreciate the chance to learn something new. Stationery printers that supply graphic design options can create everything from printed seed paper Envelopes to dibblers, sheets of gardening tips, and other custom materials to distribute.
Amherst’s home horticulturists will be learning the secrets of successful seed saving with this session set for Saturday, September 26. Tickets are $37, and it will begin at 1:00 pm.
